Caney Valley Public Schools, in partnership with Oklahoma GEAR UP, continues to celebrate ongoing success in helping students and families prepare for college. Caney Valley works directly with GEAR UP to provide early intervention services and strategies for approximately 324 students in grades seven through 12. GEAR UP activities with Caney Valley include teacher training in school leadership, school data analysis and planning, advanced science and math teaching strategies, creating a college going culture, counseling for college readiness, working with students from special populations and more. Caney Valley also offers College App Week each fall so students can appy to college with onsite, knowledgable assistance. A parent group from Caney Valley also participated in the GEAR UP Parent Leadership Academy designed to equip parents as leaders and advocates for their school. The PLA team was awarded $11,000 in partnership support funds for the Infinity Program which helped provide technology and other classroom needs in the district. Students also participate in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) opportunities such as GEAR UP U on college campuses and rookie camps that welcome them to high school by introducing them to the campus, student body and the expecations of high school before the school year begins.
