Ecological Investigations and Wilderness Adventure

This academy invites students to come and experience the wonder of nature for themselves. Students will stay in a new dorm on the Connors State College campus and each day be transported to an outdoor classroom – 1,613 acres of lakes, woods, fields and trails. Students will have the opportunity to help with an endangered species research project – a study to determine why catfish in Lake Eufaula have purple eggs – and to go with fisheries biologists to shock fish for a census in our lakes. Students will enjoy true hands-on learning in biology, ecology, meteorology, natural history and much more!

This academy is looking for high school students interested in science, mathematics and/or career opportunities in criminal justice. Twenty students will be selected to participate in four exciting days of hands-on activities, science experiments, field trips for behind-the-scene looks at area industries and a “who done it” conclusion.

Students interested in the math or computer science fields should check out this academy that gives them the opportunity to write computer programs in an interactive environment incorporating 3-D graphics. They will also conduct fun experiments and learn how statistics apply to the real world. During the academy, students will visit with successful professionals in the computer science field who share their love of math and computers. Students will also enjoy field trips to leading-edge centers of research and industry. Past field trips include Riskmetrics in Noble, the Federal Aviation Administration site in Oklahoma City and the University of Oklahoma Supercomputer Center.

Computer Graphics: Getting Into the Game Industry

June 17-20
This academy targets high school students with interest in computer graphics/video game design careers. Students will experience five days of intense, yet fun, computer graphics training. The course will cover 2-D graphic design using Adobe Photoshop, 3-D graphic design using Maya and Unreal Editor, as well as realistic expectations of salaries and job descriptions. The program will encourage creativity and desire to complete a college degree in computer graphics or a related field.
