Langston University, Langston
An Intensive Summer Academy in Mathematics and Science for Grades 10–12
Residential
June 8-21

This academy invites students to challenge their brains this summer! Students will work with scientists to examine fungi inoculation, culturing and growth, chromatography, and anatomical dissection. They also will learn chemistry stoichiometric measurements and calculations and the theory and graphing of calculus functions. Students will participate in daily workshops to prepare for the ACT and explore outside the classroom on field trips to the Langston University Aquatic Center, the Research and Extension Center, Goat Farm, and Langston University Lake.

Explore and experience the excitement of the technology and sciences that reshape our world. During this intensive week-long program, participants are challenged with laboratory and field- based scenarios centered on a common theme: fire. Participants investigate careers, learn new skills and prepare for the fascinating world of technology. Specific activities include forensics, robotics and the science and engineering of fire.

July 27–August 1

During this academy, teams of students will assemble robots, model boats and design an obstacle course in the form of a maze. Exciting activities will expose participants to virtual, digitally controlled mass inflow systems and the aerospace, computer, electrical, material, mechanical and systems engineering fields. Competition will be held throughout the academy. Field trips will be taken to University of Oklahoma, the Jasmine Moran Museum and engineering facilities like Enviro Systems and Blue Wave Boats.

Oklahoma Giants – Exploring the Science, Math, Engineering and Technology of Oklahoma’s Wind and Natural Gas Energy

This academy is a fun way to explore the math, science and technology behind two of Oklahoma’s most valuable resources – wind and natural gas. Using labs and field trips, students will explore the math, science and technology used every day by Oklahoma men and women as they produce energy for our nation. The academy will take place on the campus of Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, 70 miles west of Oklahoma City in the heart of Oklahoma’s wind and gas energy industry.
