It is a common misconception that financial aid is not available for adults returning to college or entering college for the first time. Financial assistance is available in many forms ranging from government aid to industry-specific aid.
The first step is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), a form required to apply for student aid. Forms are available at college or university financial aid offices or online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Additionally, it is never too late to save for your college education, and the Oklahoma 529 College Savings Plan (www.ok4saving.org) is a flexible savings program that allows adults to save for their own undergraduate or graduate education. The program offers tax advantages, including a $2,500 state income tax deduction, and a low start-up investment of $25 or $15 per pay period through payroll deduction.
