Entering College as an Adult Student
Entering college for the first time or returning to
continue your education is a big step. But you are not alone. In fall
1998, 42 percent of the students enrolled in Oklahoma public colleges
and universities were 25 or older.
Full-time jobs, families and other obligations can
make it difficult to go to college, but Oklahoma colleges and universities
have expanded programs that will fit into your busy life and meet the
job requirements of today's workplace. Several schools have also opened
branches in communities across the state to give you easier access to
the courses you need.
A study conducted by the
National Center for Higher Education Systems notes that 93 percent of
Oklahoma's population lives within 30 miles of a college or university
campus.
Also, to better meet the needs of adult students and
Oklahoma businesses, the State Regents have partnered with the Council
on Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL). The State Regents and CAEL are determining how Oklahoma colleges and universities
can provide businesses and their employees with educational programs designed specifically for a certain field.
The State Regents offer many programs and services to
help you return to college or begin your college education. For more information,
