REading Conference
Highlights From "Supporting the ELL Learner in the Classroom and Beyond"
Friday, Sept. 25, 2009
Rose State College Training Center
Midwest City, Okla.
As the ELL student population continues to grow rapidly within America’s schools, so are the escalating scholastic and social issues these ELL learners face. Educators across the country are confronted with a vast array of academic challenges that include, but are not limited to, cultural backgrounds, language requirements and academic achievement struggles. These concerns are disproportionately outpacing the skill sets teachers need to adequately serve the ELL learners they teach.
In an effort to offset these academic disparities among today’s ELL learners, the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education — in collaboration with the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma Panhandle State University, Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Langston University, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, Cameron University, the University of Central Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Commission on Teacher Preparation — is hosted the second annual Reading Literacy Conference.
