Dr. Richard Boyd has previously served in administrative positions as vice president for academic affairs at Rogers State University (2002-2005); chief academic officer at Athens State University in Athens, Ala. (1992-2002); dean, College of Arts and Humanities (1989-1992), and division chair, communications (1979-1989) at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D. While at ASU and BHSU, he taught speech communication, mass communication and organizational communication courses. While at BHSU, he was the founding director of the campus radio station (KBHU-FM).
Boyd has presented a wide variety of papers, presentations and speeches on a variety of topics, including critical thinking skills, creative problem solving and academic efficiencies. He has written and received several faculty research grants. He also has served on boards and committees for community organizations, including as local president for the Rogers County United Way (2005), Limestone County Chapter of the American Red Cross (1992), Limestone County Boys and Girls Club and Spearfish Kiwanis Club.
Boyd received a doctorate in speech, organizational and mass communication from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, a master's degree in speech education from South Dakota State University in Brookings and a bachelor's degree in history and speech education from Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D.
