The Oklahoma Teacher Enhancement Program (OTEP), a Title II Teacher Quality Enhancement Grant awarded to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education by the U. S. Department of Education, was designed to create methods for evaluating the success of teacher preparation programs by assessing the impact of novice teachers on student learning.
The data collected from the grant's activities provided feedback to the state's teacher preparation programs to identify areas of needed improvement in teaching skills, knowledge and competencies.
During a fourth-year extension, OTEP developed and promoted a P-16 teacher competencies alignment and a new teacher evaluation process to assist teachers to be more effective. This improved teacher evaluation will allow teacher preparation and school districts to more reliably assess teacher effectiveness from preservice to inservice. The results of this assessment will be more useful professional development. Additionally, aligned standards and assessments will promote more useful professional development.
Data from the evaluation reports, as well as other OTEP products, can be accessed under Resources in the menu to the left. For more information, contact OTEP at 405.225.9197 (OKC metro area), 800.858.1840, or e-mail lholder@osrhe.edu.
