News and Updates

The FY09 ARRA application deadline has been extended to Friday, Dec. 4, 2009. The extension has been granted to allow states more time to coordinate their development of applications under this program with other Recovery Act applications. 


Our Programs

The following programs are managed by the Teacher Education and Minority Teacher Recruitment Center staff at the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. Click on the links to visit the programs' Web pages.

Minority Teacher Recruitment Center (MTRC)
The Minority Teacher Recruitment Center is a program of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and is created for the purpose of "recruiting, retaining and placing minority teachers in the public schools of the State of Oklahoma." Programs and initiatives include the Leadership, Education and Achievement Program (LEAP), Academic Commitment to Education (ACE), Collegiate Partnership Programs and the Future Educators Association (FEA).

Reading Conference
In an effort to offset these academic disparities among today’s ELL learners, the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education conducts annual reading literacy conferences in collaboration with the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma Panhandle State University, Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Langston University, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, Cameron University, the University of Central Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Commission on Teacher Preparation.

Resident Year Teacher (RYT)
The Resident Year Teacher Report is an annual data collection document generated by the 22 public institutions’ school of education programs for the purpose of reimbursement for entry-year committee visits.

Teacher Quality State Grants Program (ITQ)
The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, as the designated State Agency for Higher Education (SAHE), manages an annual grant selection for Title II, Part A funds. The funds are awarded to eligible partnerships to support innovative and effective professional development that improves teacher knowledge about content and data-driven decision making in the classroom.

Teacher Shortage Employment Incentive Program (TSEIP)
The Teacher Shortage Employment Incentive Program (TSEIP) is a legislative program administered by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. The program reimburses eligible student loan expenses or pays an equivalent cash benefit to individuals who graduate from an Oklahoma accredited teacher education program, receive teaching certification in mathematics or science, and agree to teach in an Oklahoma public secondary school for at least five consecutive years.

Oklahoma Global Education (Global Education Conference)
The focus of global education is the relationship of the world's cultures and systems and the connections of human beings and their common fate, regardless of the national boundaries within which they live. The fourth annual Governor’s Global Education Conference (GEC), sponsored by the Wes Watkins Center, will be hosted by Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla., Feb. 9, 2010. In the past, GEC has served more than 500 K-16 education stakeholders, business partners and legislative constituents. Mark your calendars for this event, which will feature globally versed keynote speakers; higher education, K-12 and workforce strand-specific breakout sessions; and great opportunities to network with your colleagues. Online registration will be available in October.
