Highlights

Public higher education enrollment increased 11.8 percent overall during the 1996-97 to 2005-06 ten-year time period.

At the public institutions, the graduate and professional class levels consisted of 19,368 students or 8.27 percent and 3,462 students or 1.5 percent, respectively.

Fall enrollments at research universities increased 21.4 percent over the ten-year timeframe. The regional universities incereased 7.6 percent. The community colleges increased 15.6 percent.

In 2005-06, public and private institutions had 259,790 students and 159,307 FTE (full-time equivalent).

The public sector institutions have shown a 9.7 percent increase in annual FTE enrollments from 2001-02 to 2005-06 and a 0.9 percent decrease from 2004-05 to 2005-06. The research universities had a 8.9 percent FTE increase from 2000-01 to 2004-05. Regional universities increased 7.3 percent and community colleges increased 13.3 percent.
