Nonresident Aliens and Asians had the majority of their enrollment in research universities (53.7 percent and 41.8 percent, respectively). Blacks and Native Americans had the largest percentage of their enrollment in the regional tier (42.2 percent and 41.3 percent, respectively). For Hispanics and Whites, enrollment in community colleges made up the largest percentage of their total enrollments (42.0 and 37.7 percent respectively).

In 1999 Females were 84,255 and males were 69,245.
In 2000 Females were 85,403 and males were 69,026.
In 2001 Females were 90,052 and males were 71,129.
In 2002 Females were 95,098 and males were 73,404.
In 2003 Females were 98,747 and males were 75,185.
In 2004 Females were 100,557 and males were 76,582.
