Minutes of the May 24, 2001 meeting
State Regents' Conference Room, Oklahoma City

Beth Anne Freeman called the meeting to order.

The minutes of the March 22, 2001 meeting were approved. There were no minutes of the April 2001 meeting.

Freeman welcomed the incoming members of the Executive Committee: Sharon Saulmon, Vice Chair/Chair-Elect; Barbara King, Secretary; Marty Thompson, Member-at-Large. She thanked the two members leaving the Executive Committee: Francine Fisk, Secretary and Julie Ligon, Member-at-Large.

Freeman announced that ODL had received the additional funding needed for a statewide license to BIP with Reviews. The product will have to go to bid and should be available by late September or early October.

Phil Moss discussed renewal of the NewsBank product. There is 75K this year to apply to NewsBank. Phil will post the options and pricing to the list for a response by June 1. Bela Foltin thanked Phil for facilitating the renewal.

Freeman announced training at various sites for the new statewide databases. You may register with Carol Fox at ODL to attend any of the trainings around the state.

Julie Ligon reported on the OLA Preconference. There were 41 attendees with a good mix of representation for all types of libraries. Conference evaluations were positive. If you wish a copy of the conference evaluation contact Julie. The presenter, Pat Wagner, indicated she would be happy to present a session at OLA next year.

Freeman reported on the OCALD dinner that was held on April 18 at the Faculty House in OKC. Twenty-eight people attended. Freeman thanked Marty Thompson for making all the arrangements for this enjoyable evening. Plans are underway to have an OCALD dinner on the Wednesday evening of OLA in Tulsa next year.

David Robinson reported on the response for the Gale databases. He has seven strong commitments at this time. With 7 libraries participating Gale will offer a 20% discount.

Freeman reported on the Student Library Utilization Surveys. There were 1400 respondents. Now the data needs to be analyzed. Freeman will post the spreadsheet of raw data to the list.

Freeman announced the Regents' Legal Issues in Higher Education Conference to be held September 18-19, 2001 at OU.

Jon Sparks, Chair of the Expanded Instructional Support Committee, requested volunteers to serve on the committee as it prepares to examine digital reference service. The committee is preparing a survey. Contact Jon if you are interested in serving on this committee.

Dannelle Hall reminded members to submit OK-Share statistics by August 1, 2001.

Sharon Saulmon has volunteered to compile IPEDS statistics. Please submit a copy to Sharon by June 7.

Ed Johnson announced OCALD meeting times for next academic year. The meetings will generally be held on the fourth Thursday of the month with a few exceptions.

Phil Moss announced that future OCALD meetings will likely be in the new building. An announcement will be forthcoming prior to the August 23rd meeting.

Moss announced that all OCALD institutions are now on Internet 2.

Ed Johnson announced Bela Foltin has accepted a postion at Western Washington University. Bela was commended for his contributions to OCALD.

Johnson thanked Beth Anne for her service to OCALD. This meeting completes her two-year term as Chair of the Executive Committee.

The next OCALD meeting will be Thursday, August 23, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. Place to be announced.
