RSU Students Rank High in National Competition
Two Rogers State University student teams ranked in the top 10 of the Juicy Ideas nationwide collegiate video competition. The competition challenged students to combine entrepreneurship with environmental responsibility.
Fueled by their fresh and innovative ideas, the two teams of RSU students excelled in regional, statewide and national competitions.
The two RSU teams ranked fifth and tenth in the final round of competition, which included 268 teams competing across the country. Juicy Ideas asked students to create value out of a disposable item. In Oklahoma students used plastic shopping bags and in other states items included plastic bottles, twine and pharmaceutical bottles.
Students documented their ideas on video and posted the videos to You Tube for judging. The top three teams from each region advanced to the national competition.
RSU student team “Mixed Fruit” was comprised of: Terri Dubay of Claremore; Cindy Heisterberg of Verdigris; Elizabeth Tirado of Claremore and Adil Patel of Tulsa; placed fifth nationwide.
RSU student team “Hillcats” was comprised of: Megan Pruitt of Owasso; Jolene Myler of Claremore; Jason Cantrell of Nowata and Bethia Davis of Claremore; placed tenth overall.
A working bicycle made from plastic bottles has emerged as the winning entry created by a team from Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C.
