Walgreens Donates $10,000 to SWOSU College of Pharmacy The Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy in Weatherford recently received a $10,000 check from retail pharmacy Walgreens to fund cultural diversity and leadership initiatives at the pharmacy college. Walgreens, the nation's largest pharmacy chain, has committed to donating more than $1 million annually to support initiatives dedicated to promoting diversity at the nation's pharmacy colleges and schools. In support of diversity and student initiatives within the college, $2,000 of the donation will go specifically to the Walgreens Diversity Scholarship. “We hope it will help allow schools to provide your students real, hands-on opportunities to understand, appreciate and value their patients,” said Gregory D. Wasson, both a pharmacist and CEO of Walgreens. SWOSU student Emily Scott of Lawton received the first Walgreens Diversity Scholarship at the SWOSU College of Pharmacy. The award recognizes student leaders possessing academic excellence and commitment to address diversity issues within the College of Pharmacy. “The goal is to continue to develop student pharmacists who are compelled to provide the highest level of pharmaceutical care in diverse community settings,” said SWOSU College of Pharmacy Dean Doug Ried.
