OSU-OKC Signs Agreement to Expand Wind Turbine Class Offerings

OSU-Oklahoma City has signed an agreement with University Center at Ponca City to offer wind turbine classes via closed circuit interactive television (ITV) starting this fall.

“The University Center is giving OSU-OKC an opportunity to reach students in north central Oklahoma and we are giving them the option to study wind turbine technology,” said James Saunders, OSU-OKC engineering technologies department head. “We are glad to be able to provide an option to these
students, and in return, be able to increase the number of wind turbine technicians.”

This fall, students will be able to take Introduction to Wind Energy (WTT 1004), a prerequisite course for the remaining courses in the program. A climb certification will be required to complete the class, which will be conducted at an off-site location. Final location details are still being arranged.

“Today, with the help of OSU and Pioneer Technology Center, we’re achieving the mission of the University Center at Ponca City by providing a proven, high-quality degree program for the citizens of northern Oklahoma,” said Adam Leaming, University Center CEO. “The wind turbine technology program brings an affordable, innovative and career-oriented program to the UC that will help address the growing needs from our business partners.”

OSU-OKC President Natalie Shirley looks forward to offering the program outside of the metro. “We are delighted to partner with the Ponca City educational center to bring wind turbine education to the area,” she said. “We want to help all Oklahomans increase their salaries and strengthen the communities they live in.”

The president of the OSU System, Burns Hargis, made an official announcement of the agreement at the Ponca City Chamber of Commerce on June 27.
