State Regents Unveil Redesigned College Planning Website; Includes More Features, Support Tools

The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education recently launched the updated OKcollegestart.org, Oklahoma’s student information portal that provides students, parents, high school counselors and adult learners with comprehensive college planning and preparation information.

OKcollegestart.org, the state’s official college planning website, now includes enhanced resources on its student center, professional center and electronic transcript exchange system.

OKcollegestart.org provides students with a one-stop shop to learn about, apply to and pay for college,” said Chancellor Glen D. Johnson. “The state of Oklahoma has made great strides toward increasing access and facilitating transitions from secondary to postsecondary education. The enhancements to this site support our Complete College America goal to increase the number of college degrees and certificates earned in Oklahoma by 67 percent by 2023.”

Through the site, students can access additional career assessments, career profiles and occupational data. The online portfolio has been expanded so students can retain and view their previously saved career selections, assessment results, colleges of interest and programs/majors. Students’ transcripts will be exchanged more seamlessly from high school to college and, for the first time, transcript exchange from high school to high school and college to college will be available later this year to support transfer students. The site also offers even more financial aid calculators and college planning tools for students and counselors.

Counselors and parents can use the website to help students prepare for postsecondary education. Students can choose to give counselors access to their portfolios so they can review grades and applications together. The upgraded site will also allow counselors to see assessment results and saved career and college selections for all students connected with the counselor’s school.

The website includes information about both public and independent Oklahoma colleges and universities. Students can review college information, bookmark their favorite colleges and build personal portfolios with their grades and applications. Financial aid information also is available, and families can continue to apply online for the Oklahoma’s Promise scholarship program through OKcollegestart.org.

Approximately 291,500 user accounts have been created on OKcollegestart.org since its launch in 2007. Nearly 195,000 college applications have been received, and more than 44,000 students have applied online for Oklahoma’s Promise through the site.
