UCO Design Students Win Six National Addy Awards - More Than Any Other Design Program in the Country
The University of Central Oklahoma Department of Design recently won six national Student ADDY Awards, more than any design program in the nation and besting their total number of awards from last year.
The American Advertising Federation announced the awards at their annual national conference earlier this month in Austin, Texas.
The winning Central students include Kaly Davis of Tulsa, student gold for her illustration “The Hunt”; Victor Acosta of Mexico, student silver for his invitation design “Cirque du Soleil”; Kael Little of Poteau, student silver for his packaging design “Rocky Road Bakery”; Amy Hubbard of Oklahoma City, student silver for her packaging design “Drink Up! All Nighter”; Julia Radke of Edmond, student silver for her poster design “Paper Jam”; and Brandon Land of Piedmont, student silver for his poster design “The Great American Trailer Park Musical.”
“The Department of Design is very proud of our six national ADDY Award winners. These awards mean a lot not only to the students, but also to the faculty who work very hard to ensure that the design curriculum at UCO is rigorous, competitive and relevant,” said Ruki Ravikumar, M.F.A., chair of the Department of Design.
“The awards are also a wonderful boost to the confidence of all design students at UCO. They now know that their work can stand up to competition at the national level,” she continued.
Each national award-winning student was among the 27 Central graphic design students who brought home a total of 59 awards at the 2012 Oklahoma City ADDY Awards, including the coveted “Braggy” award, given to the university with the most student winners.
The state winners went on to the AAF District 10 competition, which includes Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and northwest Louisiana. Central design students won a total of 27 awards at the district level.
The ADDY Awards are the advertising industry’s largest competition, attracting more than 50,000 entries every year in the local competitions throughout the nation. The Student ADDY Awards are a three-tier national competition sponsored by the American Advertising Federation and National Ad 2, and recognizes and rewards creative excellence by students.
