OSUccess Means Scholarships for OSU-OKC Students

The Oklahoma State University Foundation recently awarded 10 students each a $1,000 OSUccess scholarship for answering one question – “How do you define success at OSU?” Two of the winning submissions are from OSU-Oklahoma City students.

Jenny Parker and Erika Phillips found out about the contest in different ways, but both agree on one thing – the contest was different than other scholarship contests as entries could be submitted in written, video or photograph form. Parker, who has a passion for creating digital shorts, sent in a video, while Phillips entered a picture because she “couldn’t see how an essay could express what the one picture did.”

Parker is currently studying management with a marketing emphasis. Phillips is a veterinary technology student and was ecstatic to find out she had won.

“I was actually in disbelief,” she says. “A friend of mine was in the library with me, and was on the OSU-OKC Facebook page and showed me where it said I won. I was really excited that I was chosen; there were a lot of great entries.”

Parker pays for school out of pocket, so she says, “This generous gift from the OSU Foundation will be an immense help to me this semester.” She hopes to get more involved with film in the future.

“This is the first time I’ve ever submitted a short video for any type of competition, so to be one of the chosen winners is encouraging,” Parker said. “I am so incredibly thankful for the benevolence of the Foundation, as well as to the individuals who selected my video!”

Upon graduation, Phillips hopes to apply her veterinary technology degree in Texas, which is where she lived for 16 years.

“I’m grateful to receive this scholarship,” Phillips said. “I want to congratulate all the other winners, and everyone that applied. All the entries were great. Let’s not forget what success at OSU-OKC means to us!”

OSUccess scholarships will be awarded to winners each semester throughout the life of the Branding Success campaign, which will conclude in December 2014.
