Senior Athletes Compete With Help From OPSU Athletes

On Sept. 10, senior athletes from five area retirement centers congregated at the Texas County Activity Center to compete in the Golden Senior Olympics, an annual event hosted by Guymon's Dunaway Manor. Oklahoma Panhandle State University men's and women's basketball student athletes were on hand to help with games and included Aaron Ruiz, LaWilton Joseph, and Josh Edenborough of the men's team and Quinae Thomas, Tomi McDonald, LeAnna Espinosa, Kayla Hutcheson, and Nefeteria Davis of the women's team.

Over 100 participants from Guymon, Spearman, Texas, Elkhart, Kansas, and Clayton, New Mexico vied for prizes in beanbag tossing, bowling, basketball, chicken throwing, wheelchair races and volleyball along with a walk-a-thon and a talent contest that was won by the Elkhart group that played "Home on the Range" on their kazoos. Clayton won cash for the longest distance traveled.

Edenborough served as master of ceremonies and said, "I've helped with this two years, and both times something happens that puts a smile on my face. I had a good time and it was a great experience."
