Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford will once again host a summer academy centering on Oklahoma’s wind and natural gas energy industries, thanks to a $32,400 grant from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

Dick Kurtz, an instructor in the SWOSU department of industrial and engineering technology, recently received the third year of funding for “Oklahoma Giants — Exploring the Science, Math, Engineering, and Technology of Oklahoma’s Wind and Natural Gas Energy.”

Oklahoma Giants Summer Academy will target high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. The participants will explore math, science and technology using labs and field trips.  Kurtz said the program is a great look at two of Oklahoma’s most valuable resources — wind and natural gas. The academy will be offered three times during the summer of 2009 on the SWOSU campus in the heart of Oklahoma’s wind and natural gas energy industries.

For more information regarding this summer academy, contact Kurtz at 580-774-3164 or by email at dick.kurtz@swosu.edu.
