Northeastern’s Broken Arrow campus was recently selected as the project of the year by Flintco Companies. Flintco awarded the C.W. Flint, Jr. Award to the Tulsa office of Oakridge Builders, Inc., which constructed the campus. Each year eight of the Flintco Companies compete for the prestigious award. The project was led by the top-notch construction team of: Mark McGee, Area Manager; Charles Hogan, Project Manager; Terry Voss and John Schaffitzel, Superintendents; and Dawn Lancaster, Project Engineer. Each of the three phases of this $22.7 million project was delivered ahead of schedule and the entire campus was completed within a 22-month period. The campus is comprised of two buildings for classrooms and laboratories, another that contains the library, student services and administrative offices and a fourth for the maintenance department. The NSU-BA project was judged on several factors such as excellence in all areas of customer satisfaction including zero accidents, net zero change orders, zero delays and zero punchlist as well as quality, professionalism and process management. The C.W. Flint, Jr. Project of the Year Award was instituted in 1997 to recognize a single project as exemplifying the highest standards of delivery and client satisfaction in construction, which is the foundation of Flintco, Inc.’s 94-year-old company. This is the first time the award has been won by the Tulsa office. The architect for the campus is Ed Bates of Bates/LZW. “The general contractor, owner, architect and subcontractors acted as a team,” said Project Manager Charles Hogan. “That’s the only way we could all meet the requirements of the owner. That’s what made this project a success.” Additional Awards. The NSU-BA campus was also selected
as a regional winner by the Oklahoma Association of Builders and Contractors
(ABC). Oakridge Builders received the regional Excellence in Construction
Award in the $10 to 25 million dollar institutional construction category.
According to Terry Voss, superintendent for the project, the NSU-BA project
will be submitted for national ABC competition and regional competition
in the Oklahoma chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America. Story contact: Jennifer Zehnder, NSU Media Relations Coordinator 918.456.5511, ext. 2851 or zehnder@nsuok.edu |
