U.S. Navy Comdr. and NASA astronaut John Herrington (left), pins Levi Standeford of Nowata, a physics major at East Central University in Ada, during initiation ceremonies for Sigma Pi Sigma, a national honor society of the Society of Physics Students. The astronaut described his "spectacular ride" and space walks last year and said "we take for granted how remarkable the space shuttle is." Herrington, a native of Wetumka, said he didn't realize his Chickasaw heritage would receive so much attention, but if that causes someone to "connect" and work to succeed, "that's a good thing." Seven ECU students were inducted into Sigma Pi Sigma.
