Southwestern Oklahoma State University's Sayre campus was a stopping point for the American Solar Challenge (ASC) race on July 16-17.
The ASC has made a few changes to the original route that was held in 2001.
The route from Chicago to Los Angeles County is along the historic Route 66, taking teams through a stunning variety of terrains and climates. High-tech and high-efficiency solar cars crossed the Great Plains, climb the Rocky Mountains and dash over the Great American Desert to the finish line in Southern California. The 2,300 miles of solar "raycing" challenges teams from around the world.
