EVENT: RCC hosts The Howard Hangar Jazz Fantasy concert Enjoy an evening of holiday jazz when Redlands Community College and the Oklahoma Arts Council present The Howard Hanger Jazz Fantasy on Dec. 16. The concert is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in RCC’s Cultural Center Theatre. There is no admission charge and the public is invited and encouraged to attend. The Howard Hanger Jazz Fantasy is composed of Howard Hanger, Earl Hefley, Dave Coopenhaver and James Keys. The jazz group will present a concert filled with traditional holiday favorites and other seasonal tunes. Hanger, the founder of The Howard Hanger Jazz Fantasy, is an accomplished jazz musician. Each year, Hanger performs at more than 50 elementary schools and community concerts. He has written numerous works, including songs for children and a full symphony, and has produced several award-winning albums. Hanger’s most recent albums include “Dog Breath and Other Mind-Boggling Hits for Kids” and “Be Still My Soul.” Hefley, who has been performing with Hanger for more than 20 years, is a veteran music educator, conductor and performing musician. He currently serves as an instructor of clarinet, saxophone and music appreciation for non-music majors at the University of Central Oklahoma, as well as an instructor of flute, clarinet and saxophone at Southern Nazarene University. Hefley has been involved with several of Hanger’s past recording projects. Concert attendees also will have the opportunity to enjoy the Jack Hill Exhibition in the RCC Art Gallery, an exhibit of colorful oils and watercolors. RCC offers a variety of cultural programs throughout the academic year.
