EVENT: Astronaut John Bennett Herrington to speak at RSC Astronaut John Bennett Herrington will be the featured Diamond Leadership speaker at Rose State College on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 11:30 a.m. in the RSC Communications Center. Harrington was a NASA Astronaut from 1996-2005 and became the first Native American in space. He is currently Vice President /Director of Flight Operations and Chief Pilot of the XP Spaceplane. Herrington received a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Colorado and a Master of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. In 1996, Harrington was selected by NASA and completed two years of training and evaluation before being qualified for flight assignment as a mission specialist. He was part of the STS-113 Endeavor which was the 16th shuttle to visit the International Space Station. “I am excited to have Mr. Herrington on our campus and believe it will enrich the lives of our Rose State College faculty, staff, students and the area elementary, junior high and high school students who will also be attending,” said Towry Barnard, RSC Student Activities Coordinator. Herrington’s visit is part of Rose State College’s Diamond Leadership Series sponsored by Don. S. Reynolds Lectureship.
