| EVENT: Inauguration of Langston President JoAnn W. Haysbert
Langston University will celebrate the inauguration of its fifteenth and first female president next month. Dr. JoAnn W. Haysbert will be honored during the week of Sept. 24-30, 2006, in Langston, Okla. About 7,000 invitations have been sent to government and university officials across the country. President Haysbert’s vision for Oklahoma’s only historically black university includes increasing enrollment figures, creating more programs of distinction, boosting fundraising for more scholarships and teacher endowments and expanding local economic opportunities. “The sine qua non of a great university is academic excellence, as measured by the quality of the research, scholarship, and graduates it produces, along with their collective impact on the larger society,” Haysbert explains in her Vision Statement. Haysbert has a doctorate in administration and supervision in higher education from Auburn University. Before accepting the Langston presidency in August 2005, she was provost and chief operating officer of Hampton University in Hampton, Va.
