EVENT: National Webmaster's Conference The Rose State College Communication Center is a host site for the 2005 World Organization of Webmasters’ (WOW) National Web Application Development Workshop, Oct. 27-28. Web Application Development is the strategic processes of site development integrating business and technology procedures and operations. The conference is geared for small and large businesses owners, industry leaders, IT development individuals, government employees in the IT areas, educators and students pursuing e-commerce or webmaster studies. Conference topics include enterprise web application strategy, web application architecture and frameworks, website and portal design and much more. “For a business or government entity to be effective online there must be an understanding of how the business is structured, who will be using the services/products and how technology can become an effective and reliable means of distributing the business operations,” said Dara Hays, Rose State Business and Information Technology Division professor. “The web industry is not limited to the physical location, but it is limited by the knowledge and misconceptions of the web professional. This conference is designed to assist government and business leaders with a greater understanding of the web professional and dispel the misconceptions of the online business market.” Cost to attend the conference is $295, which includes certification testing. Scholarships are available for students and educators. For more information and to register, visit www.webprofessionals.org/community/events/websummit5/. In addition, the Rose State chapter of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) is sponsoring Business Community Day on October 29. This event offers business and government professionals an opportunity to understand and discuss issues relevant to conducting business online. WOW Executive Director Bill Cullifer will discuss online marketing strategies. Cullifer, Stanford University Professor (Ret.) Bebo White and RSC Professor Dara Hays will lead a discussion on hiring the Web professional. RSC Professor of Networking and CyberSecurity Ken Dewey will lead a discussion on online security. “The complexity and importance of modern Web-based applications and services require that they be designed and managed using sound project methodologies based upon proven rigorous engineering principles,” White said. The cost is $20 and includes lunch. Registration is now open and seating is limited. To register for the Business Community Day, go to http://www.wowconference.org or http://www-stu.rose.edu/BusComm; or contact Prof. Hays at (405) 733-7486 or dhays@rose.edu. |
