| EVENT: Comedian kicks off SWOSU Panorama Series
Comedian Bill Engvall of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour will kick off the 2004-05 Panorama series at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. Engvall, who along with Jeff Foxworthy will be starring in their own television show this fall, will entertain at SWOSU on Sept. 1. Brian Adler, chairman of the Panorama Committee at SWOSU, said other Panorama events include a talk by former prisoner of war Col. Chuck Scott on Oct. 12; a performance by The Wizards of Weird on Nov. 16; a debate on the legalization of marijuana on Feb. 15; and a performance by Drum Drum on April 7. All events begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center. Ticket prices vary for the individual events. Tickets for Bill Engvall's performance are on sale now at the SWOSU Public Relations & Marketing Office, Room 205 of the Administration Building, and at the SWOSU Business Office, Room 109 of the Administration Building. Tickets are $5 for SWOSU students in advance and $10 for non-SWOSU students in advance. All tickets at the door will be $15. Tickets can also be purchased with a credit card by calling (580) 774-3019. Survivor of 444 days as a hostage in Iran, Colonel Scott is considered the Pentagon’s leading expert on terrorism, both domestic and in the Middle East. Col. Scott will discuss the events of his ordeal and the abilities he developed to survive it. Scott was among 51 American hostages held during 1979-81 in the United States Embassy in Tehran, Iran. Admission is free to the October 12 event. Ron Lyon and Jenny Paschall, creators and producers of ABC TV’s Ripley’s Believe It or Not starring Jack Palance, will bring some of the most phenomenal video segments from their personal archives to SWOSU on November 16. Admission is free. Lyon and Paschall will share their work that has taken them to some of the strangest places on this earth. Bob Stutman and Steve Hager will debate the issue of legalizing marijuana at SWOSU on February 15. Admission is free. Stutman is a 25-year veteran of the D.E.A., rising through the ranks and retiring as head of the New York office, the world’s largest. He has been called “the most famous NARC in America” by the New York Times. Hager was editor-in-chief of High Times Magazine for 15 years and founded The Cannabis Cup, the “academy awards” of marijuana. Drum Drum for the last three years has been at the forefront of contemporary Pacific music and dance in Australia. These young islanders from Papua New Guinea are bringing their music and dance spectacular to North America, including SWOSU, for an encore season. Based in the tropical north of Australia, Drum Drum draws upon their diverse cultures and ancestry to create a style of music never heard. Drum Drum is taking the world by storm with their unique combination of traditional and western instruments. Panorama is a program that brings outstanding speakers and entertainers to the SWOSU campus.
