| EVENT: Faculty Art Exhibit at Redlands Community College Sample the work of three accomplished artists during Redlands Community College’s newest art exhibit! RCC’s exhibit, which will be displayed through August 1 in the Fine Arts Gallery in the Larry F. Devane Multi Media Building, features works by three of RCC’s fine art faculty members, Denise Wynia-Wedel, Larry Clements, and Tim Rose. RCC’s faculty exhibit includes numerous works in different mediums, including oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, charcoals, and photography. The exhibit is open from 8 am-5 pm, Monday-Friday. There is no charge for admission and the public is invited and encouraged to visit the gallery. Wynia-Wedel serves as RCC’s Fine Arts Coordinator, Instructor, and Gallery Curator. She has a bachelor’s degree in visual arts, with a photojournalism minor, and a master’s degree in museum studies/art history. As an instructor, Wynia-Wedel has received several teaching awards, including the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award and the Oklahoma Association of Community College Great Ideas for Teaching Award. She also is a professional fine artist with more than 200 awards to her credit; she owns a gallery/studio, Cobblestone Galleries, in Medicine Park. Providing students with creative outlets is important to Wynia-Wedel. “It is invaluable for developing artists to experience a strong foundation to build a successful career, whether they plan on being an abstract painter, art educator, portrait artist, or graphic designer. Life’s paths tend to lead in different directions that sometimes surprise us all,” Wynia-Wedel said. “It is important to have a good foundation in the arts to prepare you as well as the chance to experience new concepts, ideas, and techniques. At Redlands, we try to give that foundation to our art majors and other students who are interested in learning about the fine arts.” Clements serves as RCC’s Printing Services Director, Photographer, and Instructor, and has been with RCC for more than 20 years. A long-time professional photographer, he teaches courses on black and white photography, as well as digital photography. Clements has received numerous awards for his printing, photography, and instruction, including the 2005 NISOD Excellence Award. Rose serves as an Adjunct Instructor for RCC. He earned a bachelor’s degree in art education and a master’s degree in higher education, both from the University of Central Oklahoma. Rose has received numerous awards for his teaching, including the Milken National Educator Award, the Fulbright Memorial Scholar Award, and a Governor’s Commendation in recognition of his teaching. For Rose, teaching is as important as creating. “Teaching has been an exciting experience for me. The reward of seeing the results of my students always has been something that brings me great joy,” Rose said. “The moment when students realize that they have the talent to make something beautiful or interesting is an achievement for both my students and me.” For more information, contact Denise Wynia-Wedel at wyniad@redlandscc.edu or at 405.262.2552, ext. 2628. |
