EVENT: Algebra Preparation Workshop at SWOSU An algebra preparation workshop designed to assist students coming out of high school who are weak in math preparation is being offered by Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. Dr. Gerry East, chairman of the SWOSU Mathematics Department, said the course is designed for any student who needs remediation at the college level and wishes to strengthen the success of their first semester of mathematics without the pressure of graded exams. The course is also excellent for students entering college who have not been in the math classroom for a long period of time. The workshop will be July 19-23 and July 26-30 from 9-11 a.m. each day in Campbell Building Room 102. Cost is $100. Even though the workshop is later this summer, registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Individuals can register for the continuing education activity by calling the SWOSU Office of Sponsored Programs at (580) 774-7012. The workshop, sponsored by the SWOSU Mathematics Department, will cover a review of algebra topics. During each session, basic concepts will be presented, practice time will be offered, and students will receive immediate feedback on methods to master and retain material. Instructor of the course will be Amber Morlan, a teacher in the Weatherford Public School system. She has taught all levels of math, including summer math and science programs for high school juniors and seniors. She was an Oklahoma Master Teacher representing middle school mathematics.
