EVENT: Summer One-Act Play Classes Offered at RSC This summer, the Rose State College Humanities Division is reviving a one-act playwriting and production class. “It’s like summer stock; very hands-on” said Humanities Dean Betty Edwards. “It will be fun for writers to see their work from start to finish. Students are coming in with one-act plays already written and we’ll go from there.” Students are spending the month of June perfecting the work with Professor Carl Sennhenn, former Oklahoma Poet Laureate. In July, the original works will be produced and presented on stage in the H.B. Atkinson Theatre with Professor Rebecca Thrash. Professor Sennhenn said offering the summer program is an opportunity for student writers to get a taste of what professional theater is like: a collaboration between dramatist, director, actors and others involved in the preparation of scripts for dramatic presentation. “After working with a writing coach--my role--students will then work with the director of their plays and the actors in making their work ready not only for performance but the best performance possible,” he said. “For young writers this should be an exciting and challenging experience.” |
