EVENT: Artscope getting ready for 6th season in Chickasha
Artscope – a summer learning program for children ages 8-12 -- returns for a sixth season in Chickasha beginning June 14. The event is scheduled in Davis Hall at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. Enrollment is open for the two-week, all-day camp, which will be held June 14-25. Day campers will be able to study dance, music, drawing, painting, sculpting, and theatre. Along with fun classes are camp activities such as theme days and cookouts. Daily recreational activities using non-competitive games are also a part of Artscope, as well as a tour of the USAO art gallery. Guest artists join the faculty of professional artists/teachers for special performances. Students will prepare a Showcase Performance for parents and members of the community, which will be held at the USAO Little Theatre on the last day of camp. Artscope instructors have extensive experience as both teaching and performing artists. Theatre teachers are Julie Bohannon and Brandon Pasley. Returning Visual Arts teacher is Patti Herrera. Aja Davis will serve as both dance and music instructor. “Artscope is a great way to experience the arts from real artists and to learn how artists think and create while having fun,” says Julie Bohannon, president of the Chickasha Area Arts Council. Artscope is a non-profit program of the Chickasha Area Arts Council and the Children’s Arts Network and is partially funded by the Oklahoma Arts Council. It is a branch off of Artworks, a six-week, full day program in its 17th year in Oklahoma City. Artscope also receives assistance from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma and other local organizations. Artscope planners eagerly welcome support from local organizations. “If your organization would like to contribute to our program, please contact the numbers below,” Bohannon said. “This program serves a critical need in Chickasha, and we welcome help from like-minded individuals and groups.” For more information, a brochure or a financial aid application, call director Lisa Souza at (580)332-3244, on-site coordinator Mary Jeffries at 224-0040, or e-mail artscope1999@yahoo.com. Enrollment is limited, and classes will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Financial aid is available based on need. Contact: Randy Talley, 1-405-574-1337 |
