EVENT: NSU Living Literature Center presents theatrical
tour of Canada

The Living Literature Center at Northeastern State University will conduct its summer literary tour May 27-June 1. During the week-long tour, participants can experience the Shaw Festival, (Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario), the Stratford Festival of Canada (Stratford, Ontario) along with the spectacular sites of eastern Canada, including Niagara Falls. Participants can earn college credit and scholarships are available to NSU Students and high school English teachers.
“The summer tour will give students a chance to study literature in a nontraditional setting,” said Dr. Christopher Malone, Director for the Living Literature Center. “With world-class festivals and breath-taking views, LLC’s theatrical tour of Canada promises to be spectacular.”
The Shaw Festival. One of the largest repertory companies
in North America, the Shaw Festival is the only theatre in the world that
specializes in plays written by Bernard Shaw and his contemporaries
(1856-1950) – “plays about the beginning of the modern world.”
Located in the historic town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, the Shaw festival is at the northern end of the scenic Niagara Parkway. Niagara-on-the-Lake is a beautiful town full of lush parks and gardens, historic sites, award-winning wineries and some of Canada’s finest Victorian architecture. Niagara-on-the-Lake recently won the “Prettiest Town in Canada” award and placed second for “Prettiest Town in the World.”
The Stratford Festival. Shakespeare’s plays are and always will be the cornerstone of the Stratford Festival of Canada. The Festival adventure began in 1953, in a tent; an affirmation of hope when a world war was still a recent memory. For 50 years, the Stratford Festival has celebrated the enduring human impulse to create art, and what that impulse represents: the continuing triumph of life and civilization.
The excitement of the Stratford Festival is never limited to the productions on stage, with concerts, lectures, tours, free-for-all discussions and appearances by celebrated writers, all part of the Festival Fringe.
