EVENT: Rose State College Hosts Law Day Speaker
Oklahoma State Bar President, M. Joe Crosthwait, Jr., will be the featured speaker at the sixth annual James F. Howell “Country Lawyer” Lectureship at Rose State College,Monday, April 30 at 11 a.m. in the Tom Steed Auditorium. Crosthwait’s lecture is held in recognition of National Law Day, a day set aside each year for people across the country to celebrate the law and the legal system. This year’s Law Day Theme is Liberty Under Law: Empowering Youth, Assuring Democracy. “By participating in Law Day we help Rose State College students and our community renew its commitment to the rule of law, which is the basis for our great nation,” said Howell. “Crosthwait was chosen as speaker because of his involvement and commitment to the State and National Bar Association. Everyone will enjoy listening to him speak.” Crosthwait graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy in1971 and a Juris Doctor from Oklahoma City University in 1974. He began his solo practice with emphasis on family law, estate planning and probate in 1974. In 1975 he became the first Director of the Legal Assistant Program at Rose State College. Crosthwait is active in the organized bar at the national and local level. He served as Municipal Judge for the City of Midwest City and as Judge on the Temporary Court of Civil Appeals. Law Day was conceived by the late Hicks Epton, a Wewoka attorney and past president of the Oklahoma Bar Association. President Dwight D. Eisenhower established Law Day nationally by presidential proclamation in 1958. The Rose State event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 736-0315. |
