EVENT: OSU - A&S Lecture Series DATE: Feb. 22 The College of Arts & Sciences at Oklahoma State University brings the world to Oklahomans through two lecture series designed to expose faculty, students and citizens to eminent scholars, artists, authors, musicians and social scientists. The Arts and Humanities Lecture Series is the brainchild of Peter M.A. Sherwood, Regents professor and dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. The series, first introduced in 2006, features guests in the fields of art, music, theater, English, foreign languages, history and philosophy. Visiting lecturers have ranged from Carlos Eire, author and religious scholar, to Kevin Gaines, an expert on U.S. and African-American history, to Harry S. Stout, a member of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation. Sherwood launched the Social Science Seminar Series in fall 2008, which similarly brings speakers to the OSU campus in the fields of communication sciences and disorders, geography, journalism and broadcasting, political science, psychology and sociology. Guests have included Paula Giddings, the author of When and Where I Enter: The Impact of Black Women on Race and Sex in America; Robert Bullard, called one of the century’s environmental leaders by Newsweek Magazine; and environmental filmmaker Joshka Wessels. Monday, Feb. 22, 3:30 p.m. Room 035 Murray Hall. Greg Gleason, professor of political science and public policy at the University of New Mexico, will lecture on “Fire Breaks, Battle Lines and Bridges: US Foreign Policy in a New Key.” All lectures are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.
