EVENT: NSU students give back during The BIG Event

Northeastern State University students will give back to the Tahlequah community on March 29 during the third annual “The BIG Event.”
“Bringing the campus and community together is our mission,” said NSU student Jaclyn Munson, who is organizing this year’s event with fellow Senator Herb Rozell Scholar, Kristin King. “Volunteers will be doing a number of jobs in the community, from painting houses to washing windows to working school carnivals.”
The BIG Event volunteers complete approved tasks requested by the Tahlequah community. Tahlequah residents, service agencies or businesses with a project for the NSU student volunteers may complete a job request form by Feb. 29. Request forms can be found at www.nsuok.edu/thebigevent.
“The BIG Event is not about the number of jobs completed or about the number of students who participate each year; rather, it is the interaction with the residents and the resulting unity in the community that makes The BIG Event so big,” King said. “This is a chance for NSU students, faculty and staff to say ‘Thank you’ to the community for its continued support.”

The BIG Event is a one-day community service project organized by Northeastern’s Senator Herb Rozell Scholars. The BIG Event was started at Texas A&M University and has spread to more than 70 other schools. Students at campuses across the nation come together for “One Big Day, One Big Thanks, One BIG Event.”
