EVENT: Bill Jaxon Exhibit at Redlands features American West Immerse yourself in art depicting the American West during Redlands Community College’s new art exhibit! RCC’s exhibit, which is on display now through March 29 in the Fine Arts Gallery in the Larry F. Devane Multi Media Building, features works by local Oklahoma artist Bill Jaxon. Jaxon won his first art competition, a national competition, at the tender age of eight. After winning this competition, he knew that he had a future in art. Jaxon attend the University of Oklahoma, where he served as a graduate assistant in the Art Department. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in painting and professional art, with honors, and is a member of the Alumni Hall of Fame at the University of Oklahoma Arts and Sciences. Following his graduation from college, Jaxon formed his own company and began doing illustrations for magazines and advertisements. He then served as an illustrator for Oklahoma’s largest newspaper for five years, during which time his paintings and sculptures were exhibited in art shows and galleries. Jaxon has received more than 200 major awards and prizes during his 30 years of experience, including being voted one of America's Top 25 Most Popular Artists by gallery owners in 1995, being named to "Who's Who in American Art", and being designated a member of American Watercolor Society. RCC’s exhibit is open from 8 am-5 pm, Monday-Friday. There is no charge for admission and the public is invited and encouraged to visit the gallery.
