| EVENT: NOC Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit
Challenged to create their first outdoor sculptures, 14 Oklahoma artists produced “Out of Their Element/Out in the Elements” now on view at Northern Oklahoma College Tonkawa. The show was the brainchild of Oklahoma sculptor Randy Marks, who was interested in motivating artists who had never attempted large scale works suitable for outdoor display to stretch their boundaries. The resulting exhibit is on view on the lawn north of the Northern Performing Arts Center through Feb. 27. Admission is free. For this exhibition, Northern art instructor Audrey Schmitz constructed the 7-foot tall "Aphrodite's Charms" from stoneware clay and iron. The sculpture represents a bracelet worn by Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, beauty and culture. Adding her own version of the ancient myth, Schmitz made inscribed charms collected by the goddess from her many lovers and consorts before Aphrodite’s jealous husband, the blacksmith Hephaestus, broke the bracelet in two. In addition to Schmitz, the participating artists, all Oklahomans, include Alyson Atchison, “Don’t Forget to Know Me (In This Light);” Brian Fitzsimmons, “Stolen;” Michael Hoffner, “Sunflowers;” Heather Lee, “Coco Delight;” Nathan Lee, “Skin Deep Revealed;” Logan Narcomey, “Sigguris;” Morgan Robinson, “One in All and All in One;” Larry Pickering, “Room with a View, No. 1;” Angela Renke, “Lolita;” Klint Schor, “Verizon;” Byron Shen, “Untitled (Doorway);” Griffin Sabine, “Triangulo de Recuperacion;” and Sue Moss Sullivan, “Leap of Faith” and “Trailhead”.
