EVENT: "Corrugated Cardboard" art exhibition at NOC
"Jessie Montes: Works in Corrugated Cardboard,” an exhibition of landscapes, designs, portraits and three-dimensional sculptures created by Montes, a self-taught folk artist, is on view through Feb. 22 in the Eleanor Hays Art Gallery of the Northern Oklahoma College Tonkawa Performing Arts Center. Gallery hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and during evening and weekend performances in the NPAC Auditorium. Admission is free. Montes chose corrugated paperboard, commonly called cardboard, as his medium because so much of it was going to waste. Textures are created by the way he cuts the cardboard. ". To form his art, he glues quarter-inch strips of cardboard onto the surface of the base, also made of cardboard. A protective coating is placed over the finished work. The inspiration for Montes' colorful artwork comes from such sources as his ethnic background, imagination, photographs, family and real life experiences. He categorizes his artistic technique as "developing my own picture puzzles." Contact: Marjilea Smitheisler, 1-580-629-6444 |
