EVENT: UCO - Public Forum DATE: Feb. 10 Online registration is now open for the University of Central Oklahoma-based Educators’ Leadership Academy (ELA) public forum led by award-winning author and educational leader Dr. Parker J. Palmer, scheduled for 2 p.m., Feb. 10 in Central’s Nigh University Center. Interested participants can register for $25 at www.uco.edu/ela. Palmer will discuss effective forms of teaching and learning as well as important issues in education, community, leadership, spirituality and social change, with an opportunity for attendees to ask Palmer questions following the presentation. As the founder and senior partner for the national Center for Courage and Renewal, Palmer oversees the programs “Courage to Teach”, “Courage to Lead” and “Circle of Trust,” designed for people in the serving professions including education, medicine, ministry, law and philanthropy as well as other areas. Palmer previously served as senior associate of the American Association of Higher Education for 15 years, and now serves as senior advisor to the Fetzer Institute. Palmer has had numerous poems, essays and best-selling and award-winning books published. His work has received 10 honorary doctorates for his work, two Distinguished Achievement Awards from the National Educational Press Association, an Award of Excellence from the Associated Church Press and major grants from the Danforth Foundation, Lilly Endowment and the Fetzer Institute. Palmer received his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California at Berkeley and is a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker). He lives in Madison, Wis., with his wife, Sharon.
