EVENT: OSU-Tulsa presents 'Unseen Cinema' Beginning this month, Oklahoma State University-Tulsa will present Unseen Cinema, a unique series of foreign, fine art and obscure films that have not been previously released in Oklahoma. OSU and the Cinema Arts Foundation will sponsor the film series on the OSU campuses in Tulsa and Stillwater. All the films are free and open to the public. Unseen Cinema will kick off Sunday, Jan. 22 at OSU-Tulsa with F. W Murnau’s “Sunrise.” This silent, black and white movie follows the story of a woman from the city who convinces a young married farmer that he should kill his wife. The film is considered one of the great masterpieces of silent cinema and won three Academy Awards. The film will be shown Jan. 19 at OSU in Stillwater. “Moloch,” directed by Aleksandr Sokurov, is next in the series and will be shown Feb. 19 in Tulsa and Feb. 23 in Stillwater. The film’s narrative structure is based on the relationship between one of the most important figures of the twentieth century, Adolf Hitler, and the only person who ever dared to contradict him, his beloved Eva Braun. Winner of the Best Screenplay award at the Cannes Film Festival, the fictional drama chronicles 24 hours in the lives of Hitler and Braun during a visit of their Alpine mountain retreat in 1942. Based on a work by Tolstoy, Robert Bresson’s “L’Argent” is the story of a forged 500-franc note that gets passed from person to person until one man is arrested. Winner of the Best Director Award at Cannes, “L’Argent” will be shown March 23 in Stillwater and March 26 in Tulsa. The final film in the series, “Throne of Blood,” will be shown April 9 in Tulsa and April 13 in Stillwater. The film is Akira Kurosawa’s adaptation of “Macbeth.” Set in medieval Japan, the film follows a Samurai who is urged to murder his friend by his wife and a spirit. All Tulsa showings will be at 2 p.m. in the OSU-Tulsa Auditorium, 700 North Greenwood Avenue in Tulsa. The film series will be shown at 7 p.m. in 110 Auditorium, Wes Watkins Center in Stillwater.
