| EVENT: OU hosts national conference on changing libray issues “Digital Information and Knowledge Management: New Opportunities for Research Libraries,” will be examined in a national conference hosted by the University of Oklahoma Libraries Thursday and Friday, March 3 and 4, at the Oklahoma City Embassy Suites Hotel, 1815 S. Meridian. Each year, the conference, which began in 1982, brings together librarians from across the United States and Canada to focus on current issues facing libraries, such as reference services, fund raising, electronic formats and vendor evaluation. This year’s self-supporting conference, which gives university employees the opportunity to participate in a staff development program at no charge, will feature nationally recognized librarians, including: • Paula Kaufman, University of Illinois at Urbana, who will address “Challenges and Opportunities in the New Webs of Complexity” • Brian E.C. Schottlaender, University of California at San Diego, who will discuss the pressure on and evolution of emerging collections in a digital age • Nancy Davenport, president of the Council on Library and Information Resources, who will expound on the emerging “attributes, attitudes, and skills needed by the librarians of tomorrow” considered “essential for library development in the 21st century” Registration for the conference, which costs $180 per person, closes Feb. 18, 2005.
