Gov. Brad Henry presents one of the 11 awards at this year’s Higher Education Hall of Fame to University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma President John Feaver, left. The event was held recently at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City and was attended by nearly 600 higher education, state and civic leaders. Henry is assisted by State Regents' Chairman James D. Harrel, center. For this posthumous award, Feaver accepted on behalf of the late Dr. G.W. Austin (1873-1926), a visionary leader who served as fourth president of the Oklahoma College for Women – today known as USAO. Other inductees this year included petroleum engineer Dr. Kermit Brown, botany professor Ivan Lurz, English professor and administrator Bailey McBride, dance impresario Jo Rowan, global business expert Robert Sandmeyer, weather expert Yoshi Sasaki, literary master Melvin Tolson, longtime college president Joe White, and English professor Valeree Wynn. A special award was presented longtime State Regent John Massey for his leadership and philanthrophy.
