Lt. Gov. Jari Askins (center left) led a state ceremony on Aug. 27 unveiling a new Oklahoma Centennial history exhibit honoring 10 great women and their alma mater: the Oklahoma College for Women, known today as the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. From left are USAO President John Feaver, Askins, and two of the highly accomplished Oklahoma women whose lives provide the story in this unique exhibit: forensic artist Betty Pat. Gatliff of Norman, and blood disease expert Dr. Jeane Porter Hester of Houston. Both women graduated from OCW in 1951. The exhibit, “Preparing the New Woman at the Oklahoma College for Women: Expectation and Reality,” will remain on display at the new Oklahoma History Center north of the Capitol through Statehood Day, Nov. 16. Accomplished by the USAO Foundation with grant money from the Oklahoma Humanities Council, the exhibit will tour Oklahoma museums and libraries beginning in January 2008.01
