Noted cultural educator Kevin Locke (Lakota Sioux), demonstrates the art of hoop dancing during the 34th Annual Symposium on the American Indian recently held at Northeastern State University. Themed “Native Roots Run Deep,” the event also featured internationally known poet and musician Joy Harjo; former author and principal chief of the Cherokee Nation, Wilma Mankiller; and Robert Conley, an award-winning Cherokee novelist and poet.
