Cross country runners with ties to East Central University pose with the proof of their world record time in a 100-mile relay on Dec. 31 in Ada. Despite freezing temperatures, wind and a little snow, they ran 100 miles in 8 hours, 19 minutes and 53 seconds to break the old Guinness World Records’ time by 15 minutes and 12 seconds.
Video of the relay must be sent to the Guinness organization to make the new record official. The runners include current ECU cross country team member Joel Dutton (from left) and ECU alumni John Suttrick, Cody Weaver, Matt Aguero and Jason Bewley; relay witness Brandon Korton; and alumni Chris McCormick, Jack Tracy, Josh Stewart and Kacey Miller. Each ran 10 miles, divided into a quarter mile at a time. The “100 Miles for 100 Years” relay also marked the end of ECU’s centennial year.
