![]() Christian Curtin, first-year nursing student at Oklahoma City Community College, takes the blood pressure of the College's new Human Patient Simulator. The College recently purchased the machine to train nursing and EMS students. The simulator, made by Medical Education Technologies, Inc. allows the instructor to demonstrate, and students to practice, various skills that the students need to master in the clinical setting – chest tube management, airway management, catheterization, ventilation, IV insertion and intubations. Although the students at the College have nicknamed him “Dan,” the machine represents both the male and female patient and allows for the demonstration of various clinical signs such as heart rate, breath sounds, palpable pulses and airway patency. |
