OU Freshman Class Makes State History as Academically Highest Ranked at a Public University in Oklahoma The University of Oklahoma’s new entering freshman class has the highest academic scores of any public university in the state’s history. The average ACT of the incoming class is almost 26. The new incoming class also includes 469 students who had perfect 4.0 grade-point averages in high school, the most in OU history. OU President David Boren made the announcement at the freshman convocation welcoming new students and their parents at the Lloyd Noble Center yesterday afternoon. Read more. Cameron University Launches 100th Birthday with Centennial Celebration Kick-Off
Cameron University launched its official Centennial Celebration with a rousing kick-off event on Friday, Aug. 22 that brought more then 7,000 visitors to Cameron Stadium. Students, faculty and staff members, friends from the Lawton-Fort Sill community and visitors from throughout southwest Oklahoma converged to be a part of Cameron’s 100th birthday celebration. The party kicked off with a family carnival outside of the stadium walls, with inflatable games, a rocking climbing wall, free hot dogs, hamburgers and birthday cake, and Red Dirt music star Johnny Cooper, who delivered a rousing set of rollicking country-rock fusion. Cooper played for more than an hour under the southwest Oklahoma sun, establishing a festive atmosphere for the evening’s activities. Read more. Southeastern Remains Among Nation’s Most Affordable Universities According to the U.S. News & World Report's 2009 edition of “America's Best Colleges,” Southeastern ranks second in the West geographic region in the Universities – Master’s category for the least debt loads by students from the class of 2007. Southeastern is also second in the nation in “average amount of debt.’’ Read more. State Regents Receive Federal Grant to Increase Students in Higher Education The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education recently received more than $915,000 from the U.S. Department of Education to expand and enhance current initiatives aimed at increasing the number of students who are enrolled and retained and complete degrees in higher education.
