June 1, 2005 :: Tulsa’s Parker Sworn in as New State Regent
Tulsa, Okla. businessman Joseph Parker was sworn in recently as a member of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education during the State Regents’ regularly scheduled meeting in Oklahoma City. He replaces Tulsan Joseph E. Cappy who completed the remaining five years of former Regent Stephen J. Jatras' nine-year term. Jatras passed away in 2000. Parker’s term expires in May 2014.
“We welcome Regent Parker to the State Regents. His wealth of knowledge and experience will help our state system of colleges and universities provide a quality, affordable education to the citizens of Oklahoma,” State Regents’ Chairman Jimmy Harrel said.
Parker is chairman of the board for Anchor Stone Co. in Tulsa, a company involved in the production of crushed limestone, sand and gravel, and heavy equipment brokerage. In addition, he serves on the board of directors for SunTx Capital Partners in Dallas, Texas.
He also serves on numerous civic boards in the Tulsa area, including Friends of the Fairgrounds Foundation, Holland Hall School, The Center for Legislative Excellence and the Metropolitan Tulsa Chamber of Commerce.
A 1969 graduate of the University of Nebraska, Parker earned his MBA from the University of Washington in 1971.
