Expressing thanks to Gov. Brad Henry for his plan to earmark a portion of the state income tax to fund the Oklahoma’s Promise/OHLAP scholarship program, Chancellor Glen D. Johnson and Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Chairman John Massey issued the following statements:

“The governor made a bold statement today about his support for providing access to college for thousands of students in our state. A dedicated funding source for the Oklahoma’s Promise scholarship program is vital to ensure that students across the state will continue to have the opportunity to go to college and achieve their dreams,” said Johnson.

“Since Oklahoma’s Promise began in 1992, over 68,000 high school students have enrolled in the scholarship program,” said Massey. “Oklahoma’s Promise opens the doors for students who might not have the opportunity to go to college. The governor’s plan will allow Oklahoma to fulfill its promise to the students who work to earn these scholarships.”
